Why it is worth your time

The Threat is Andrew McCabe's 2019 account of more than 2 decades at the FBI, where he rose from a New York street agent working Russian organized crime to deputy director. He became acting director in May 2017 after President Trump fired James Comey, and was himself fired in March 2018, 2 days before he planned to retire with his pension, after an inspector general found he had misled investigators about a media leak. The book covers counterterrorism work after 2001, the Clinton email inquiry and the opening of the Russia investigation. Jason posted in February 2020 that it was exceptional and that the audiobook was the way to go. It suits readers who want an insider's view. The caveat is that McCabe is giving his own account of his 2018 firing. The inspector general's finding that he lacked candor was not undone by his 2021 settlement.
